This is olecranon bursitis where the wall of the burse becomes thickened and the sac fills with a fibrinous exudate. It may become infected, usually with staphylococcus. Acute infection is treated with antibiotics. Chronic bursitis usually causes few symptoms but can be treated by excision of the bursa.
