This is shingles caused by
the herpes zoster virus which also causes chicken pox. The rash stops at the
mid line. Extremely severe pain may be felt before the rash appears. If the
dermatome involved is abdominal then a misdiagnosis of gall stones, pancreatitis
etc may be made in error.
