What is this?
Spot the deliberate mistake.
How would you classify and stage this condition?
This is a malignant melanoma. The deliberate mistake is the area drawn around the melanoma to suggest that wide local excision is to be performed. Treatment of choice at present is of more local resection and investigation of any metastatic spread. The condition is classified according to its type, ie superficial spreading; lentigo malignance; modular melanoma; acral lentiginous melanoma and subungal melanoma. Staging depends on the tumour thickness using either the Clark level or Breslow thickness together with the presence or absence of lymph node and other metastasis.
