Aortic Aneurysm

SECTION 9.00 CHOOSING A STRAIGHT OR TROUSER GRAFT

(Introduction Next Page Previous Page)

9.01 CONSIDER A STRAIGHT OR TROUSER GRAFT

A straight graft is preferable because:
It takes about an hour less time than a trouser graft in an ill patient who would benefit from the shortest operation.
It avoids extra incisions in the groins.
It avoids the complications of an extra anastomosis.
A straight graft is suitable if:
The orifices of the common iliac arteries at the lower end of the aneurysm are less than 25mm
There are no aneurysms, stenoses or blockages in the iliac arteries.
Where the arterial clamps have not damaged the iliac artery walls.
About 70% of patients will have straight grafts.
If a straight graft is reasonable:
CONTINUE.
If a trouser graft is reasonable:
GO TO STEP 16.00 (TROUSER GRAFT).
