Invitation for Submissions

The Surgical Knowledge and Skills Website is a new concept, designed as a service to College fellows and surgical trainees but open to the global surgical community. The success of this pilot project will depend on the generosity of that surgical community in submitting high quality, educational material. We welcome contributions from all surgeons throughout the World. The current content is for illustrative purposes and other formats will be considered. The website will contain streamed videos, photographs, articles ("How I do it"), Presentations, Powerpoint presentations etc. We intend to include up-to-date information on surgery, techniques and equipment.

WARNING - Anyone contributing to this site must ensure that material does not contravene the Copyright act. Contributors should ensure that patient consent is given for all identifiable images and that there is no breach of the Data Protection Act.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh does not necessarily agree with all views expressed in the WebSite.

Videos

Videos should contain interesting surgical material. They should be of 15 minutes duration or less. Ideally, videos should contain a voice over commentary. Music should not be included. Submitted videos should be of a high technical quality and we will convert them into streamed files and MPEGs. We are able to process various formats including VHS, SVHS, Hi8, digital etc. Short video clips of 10-20 seconds will also be considered.

Photographs

Each photograph should be accompanied by 2 or 3 questions with an answer. Ideally we would also like accompanying text of up to 1000 words. Digital photographs should be sent as jpegs with a maximum file size of 200k. We can also accept slides, negatives and prints for those unable to digitize images. Please send images separately and not incorporated into Word files.

Lectures/Tutorials

Lecture notes and tutorials are essentially text documents but could include diagrams and photographs. Text should be as brief as possible, ideally with extensive use of bullet points. See Photographs for details of accompanying images but do not incorporate images into Word files

Operations

Operations - ie "How I do it". These should be in text format with accompanying coloured photographs or diagrams. They should be a practical guide rather than a theoretical discussion although options may be presented where appropriate. Text should be brief. See Photographs for details of accompanying images.

Case Presentations

These are interesting case reports including some history and investigation results which make a brief educational point. Text may be combined with figures and photographs and should be interactive where possible.
